Walk for Life - Sunday 10th June 2007
On Sunday 10th June 2007, the event started and finished in Hyde Park and visited some of London's favourite landmarks. The route took Katie Cotton and her team towards the Thames, passing the London Eye, Tate Modern, Cleopatra's Needle and then infamous Millennium Bridge. This short distance has made a huge difference to impoverished people affected by HIV/AIDS in the UK and Africa.
Katie told Africa Now, "It's definitely worth doing again, it was a wonderfully laid back and informal atmosphere on the day but at the same time really well organised and managed. They were some celebrity guests as well to help with promotion; one of them was Alan Carr! And they had loads of entertainment at the finish with music from the cast of the West End musical, Wicked, and the singer from Soul II Soul.
"It's a great fundraising event that's open to all, as it's a walk as opposed to a run, and the course is really user friendly for families and dogs! I would definitely be interested in doing it again next year and hopefully can arrange further in advance and get a big group to take part
"The weather was fantastic, we couldn't have asked for a better day. We did have a few people coming up to us asking about Africa Now - so we did manager to raise a bit of interest as well!"
