Washington State Coalition of African Community Leaders

In 2016, the Washington State Coalition of African Community Leaders (The Coalition) started our journey with a handful of African Leaders committed to working together to share information across our communities and better leverage our scarce resources, while uniting as one voice.  No matter our differences or the diversity of our communities, we should never forget the African Proverb,“Two spiders working together can take down a lion.” Solutions to our common challenges, will not come from City Hall, Olympia, or DC. Real change starts when community members work together for a better tomorrow.

The Coalition’s 2020 Strategic Goals are Economic Empowerment and Civic Engagement. Our current committees include: Census, Economic Empowerment, Education & Youth/Family Support, Media, and Voter Registration. We have internship and volunteer opportunities available for students interested in building healthy, wealthy, engaging African communities. Please fill out a membership application form https://wscacl.org/membership/ and indicate which 1) committee(s) you prefer  2) In Comment section of the form, please indicate “internship,” if you are interested in being an intern.

Blaq Elephant Party

The Mission of the Blaq Elephant Party is to teach the youth of Afrikan descent their cultural, economic, and political history. This process is focused on preventing the growth of criminal or reactionary mentalities that can lead to division, poverty, incarceration, mental illness, and/or untimely death. By promoting self-determination through entrepreneurship and life skills, our programs are key to helping Afrikan students become healthy adults and progressive citizens.

Every 4th Sunday, we will have info sessions on what we are currently working on, and how volunteers and potential board members get involved. These will take place via zoom at 12pm noon.

nofy i Androy logo.png

Nofy I Androy (NiA) program

Carefully designed to provide adolescent girls the life skills, awareness of their bodies, and educational support and sponsorship needed to remain in school. Our program allows young girls to resist pressure to enter into early marriage or premature pregnancy or sexual relationships, and to become confident change leaders.

Nofy i Androy is always looking for young aspiring leaders to participate in the development of our organization. There are many ways get involve on the field or volunteer remotely and / or on social media. We are currently looking for people to fill the roles of project leader, community engagement members, web designer, and board of directors.

Our long-term goal is to build partnership with the University of Washington’s Global Health Department to give American students the opportunity to travel to Madagascar to volunteer, conduct research, and gain transcultural experience living with NiA students/families). Through this we can expand the number of beneficiaries and educate more vulnerable women. We hope that Africa Now leaders can help reach these goals.
