Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009

Support Africa Now in Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009

Africa Now is an international development organisation specialising in enterprising solutions in poverty stricken Africa. Africa Now believes everyone should enjoy the opportunity to benefit from enterprise, ethical trade and fair wages for their labour, and so encourages people to be active participants in trading their way out of poverty. Africa Now offers a ‘hand-up’ rather then just a ‘hand-out’, working with peoples skills, capacities and determination to build a better future for themselves and their children.

Global Entrepreneurship week puts the spotlight on enterprise, opening up new opportunities for people across the country and the world. It encourages people to be entrepreneurial, supporting them realise their ambitions while providing them with the ability to respond to change, take risks, to innovate and to generate and implement new ideas and new ways of doing things.

This is similar to the ethos that Africa Now takes in its work, which is why we feel so passionate about Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Africa Now’s £1 Challenge

Why not take part in Africa Now’s social enterprise challenge as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009, and make a difference to the lives of rural entrepreneurs in Africa in the process!

Creating an enterprise in a society so rich in financial resources is easy, which is why we’d like to introduce you to our £1 Challenge.  Students are tasked to develop an enterprise with just £1.  The only other resources they have are their imagination and entrepreneurial skills to make their enterprise a success.  These limited resources mirror the situation for many small businesses across Africa.  Any profit made through Africa Now's £1 Challenge will be donated to our programmes, giving more opportunities to struggling entrepreneurs and their families in Africa.

This activity will promote initiative and team work, and can teach students about the issues surrounding development, poverty reduction, social enterprises and sustainability.  The £1 Challenge can be run in one full day, for example Social Enterprise Day on Thursday 19th November, or done in lessons throughout the week.

Please visit the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2009 website.
