What's On listing

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2008, Africa Now has launched it's £1 Challenge to inspire young people and awaken their entrepreneurial spirit.

Over 2.5 billion people around the world live on less that £1 a day. Many of these people live in Africa. Africa Now promotes enterprise opportunities, enabling people in Africa to trade their way out of poverty and have a brighter future.

Africa Now is challenging students around the country to develop an enterprise from just £1.

Students will have just £1 and 1 week, plus their imagination and entrepreneurial skills to make their enterprise a success and raise money for Africa Now. This mirrors the situation for many small businesses across Africa. Students can work as individuals or can pool their resources, skills and imagination to form a team. This activity will promote initiative and team work, and teach students about the issues surrounding development, poverty reduction, and sustainability.

Any profit made through Africa Now's £1 Challenge will be donated to our programmes, giving more opportunities to struggling families in Africa.

Be part of Africa Now's £1 Challenge and really make a difference to entrepreneurs in Africa.

Making a difference to entrepreneurs in Africa

Africa Now's £1 Challenge will be launched on Monday 17th November at the start of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2008 and will run until March 2009. Send us you best enterprise ideas and you could be presented with the prestigious Africa Now Young Entrepreneur 2009 Award.

We have designed the £1 Challenge to be flexible and adaptable, to suit different timetables and age groups. You may wish to run the activity over one week, or longer. It could be part of PSHE or Geography lessons, or an extra curricular activity for Sixth Form. It's up to you.

Africa Now has developed resources to support your school in delivering Africa Now's £1 Challenge to students.
